Gurnee, a mayor of Chicago, built a station in Wentworth. The original name of the community was Wentworth. This building housed early settlers while they purchased the land for their farms, and a bridge was built close to the community house that would later help connect Chicago and Milwaukee.
Around 1835, a New York-based land company built a community house. The first settlers arrived in the Gurnee area in the 1830s, many of whom were from New York state.
